FALL CONTINUING EDUCATION 2025

The Dissociation Contiuum November 7, 2025

“Are They Here With Me?”

You’ve likely had a moment in session where something shifts. A client zones out mid-sentence, their gaze drifts, their voice flattens, or they seem suddenly unreachable.

But dissociation doesn’t only show up in the moment. It echoes through the stories clients tell. You hear it in the emotional disconnection, the fragmented timelines, the quiet “I don’t know why that still bothers me.”

This workshop is for therapists who sense something is missing but aren’t sure how to name it.

The Dissociation Continuum gives you the language and tools to recognize dissociation as it unfolds in real time—and in the way your clients make meaning of their past.

Why It Matters

Dissociation is not always dramatic. It can look like a polite smile while describing abuse. It can sound like a rehearsed script with no felt emotion.

When we recognize it, whether in a glance, a pause, or a story, we can meet it with attunement and care.

Therapists who understand dissociation are better equipped to create safety, reduce shame, and help clients slowly reclaim the parts of themselves that had to go away.

Informed by Leading Frameworks

This workshop draws from polyvagal theory, trauma and attachment science, and dissociation research. You’ll learn how to respond to dissociative experiences with nervous system-aware strategies, cultural sensitivity, and relational presence.

You Can Start Noticing What Others Miss

Dissociation doesn’t mean disconnection from therapy. It means your client has survived the only way they knew how.

Join The Dissociation Continuum on November 7, 2025, and gain the confidence to recognize, understand, and compassionately respond to dissociation in all its forms.

Learning Objectives

Dissociation exists on a broad and often misunderstood continuum; from daydreaming and zoning out to more extreme experiences like derealization, depersonalization, and fragmentation. In this workshop, we’ll explore dissociation through a trauma-informed lens and consider how to identify, assess, and treat dissociative symptoms in both subtle and severe presentations. We’ll also examine cultural context, differential diagnosis, and the role of relational safety in healing.

  1. Describe the dissociation continuum and differentiate between normative and clinical dissociation.
  2. Identify at least three clinical markers of dissociation that may impact therapeutic process and outcomes.
  3. Discuss therapeutic approaches for addressing dissociation in clients with trauma histories.
